How to select a good winter cover?

A 2016 study has shown that more than 26% are leaving because healthcare is too expensive or unavailable. Here, we are sharing some of the healthcare programs that are available to employees:

  • Health Maintenance Organization (HMO): This type of coverage provides you with a group of doctors and medical personnel. By using a HMO network you can benefit from lower premiums because you are providing patients to the network. Your employees may find this coverage interesting in the time of COVID-19, when HMO are often providing disease prevention. Plus this coverage can improve the Health of your group of employees.

  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): When subscribing to this health insurance arrangement, you are being offered a wide range of medical facilities and physicians. With the preferred providers you will get greater access to medical services than with the HMO. Of course the cost is reflecting this. Your winter cover can be cosy with PPO but also more expensive.

  • High-deductible Health Plan (HDHP): This is probably the most affordable option that employers are offering. The different HDHP plans are offering in-network or out-of-network providers. To keep your wallet healthy and strong for winter, it is always good to consider choosing in-network providers. Also worth considering the higher annual deductible for each year. In 2020, it raised to $1400 for individuals and $2800 for families.

Finally, if you are a federal employee, don't forget your healthcare enrollment period. Starting in November and open until the 15th of December the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, gives you the opportunity to get a nice and warm wintertime. We hope that your view on health insurance for employees is clearer in the winter fog.
